Evaluation of Preliminary task

When looking back at the work I have produced for my Preliminar task; front cover and contents page. I feel that I have been able to successfully achieve what I was aiming for, I have managed to use all of the right conventions and forms in order to create the school magazine of which appeals to my target audience. I wanted my magazine cover and contents page to appeal to sixth form students, but mainly aiming it at female students. I mad this evident in my front cover and my contents page mainly due to the colour scheme of which I decided to use; purple, black and white, these colours to me connote femininity together. I realised that although I wanted my magazine to appeal to sixth formers, I did want it to appeal to sixth formers of which do not only attend cola's sixth form, I wanted a bigger to atchieve a bigger market. I felt that when making my front cover I had to ensure that my typography and colour scheme appealed to my target audience. I chose to call my magazine 'Students 2 Students' as I felt that by instead of initially writing 'to' the number would be less formal, and I would have much more of an oportunity in being creative with the mastehad and making a logo out of it. By naming my masthead after 'students' I was aiming to make it personal for my target audience and I wanted the message of my magazine to be clear; the message is that the magazine only focuses on student life in the process of studying. I stuck to the colour scheme and made the masthead purple as it was eye catching and feminine. The main image I chose to use for my fron cover is of a medium close up shot of a girl reading a book, I felt that this would be most appropriate of all my captured images as it shows a learning environment and poductivity. I placed my subheadings below the main image in rather small font as I did not want to attract attention away from my main imgage. I also placed a smaller image of a girl posing and smiling to show a fun side to sixth form and relate back to the audience, I've also kept it female dominant by doing so as I want my target audience to be clear. My contents page for my preliminary task features a variety of images,in this I decided to add an image of a male to resemble some of the interests or issues many females are faced with at Sixth form. I wanted to create a classier approach to my contents page and by doing so I edited the images to black and white to resemble maturity. Again I stuck to the colour scheme of purple, white and black to create a clear and unique pattern within my magazine. I did however change my font to a less formal approach as I felt that the contents page should be far more fun and would draw the attention of the reader as they are sometimes underminded. Although I feel that I have been successful in reaching out to my target audience, I can still recognise some of the ways in which I could improve on my front cover and contents page. I could have added additional images to my front cover to stick to some of the typical magazine conventions and also added some pull qoutes to draw the attention of the target audience. I realise that I must include these elemements for the next time, as I now see how they could of improved my production.
